2023 Scholarship Winners Announced

NCSPA » NCSPA E-News » 2023 Scholarship Winners Announced

In the Fall of 2022, the NCSPA announced the formation of the NCSPA Education and Research Institute (NERI).  Under the oversight of the NCSPA Education Subcommittee and Regional Presidents Council, the NCSPA would award three (3) separate scholarships in the amount of $1500 each in 2023; the Robert E. Hall Memorial Scholarship, Donald L. Bibey Memorial Scholarship, and Doyle F. Johnson Memorial Scholarship.

It is with great honor that the NCSPA announces that winners have been chosen for the Robert E. Hall Memorial Scholarship and Doyle F. Johnson Memorial Scholarship.

Ms. Sara Stone, Winner of the Robert E. Hall Memorial Scholarship

Ms. Sara Stone of the University of Minnesota Duluth has been chosen for the Robert E. Hall Memorial Scholarship.  Ms. Stone is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Applied Materials Science with a emphasis on the potential for using polyethylene in steel pipe coatings:

“Working under Dr. Michael Pluimer, my research is testing recycled polyethylene piping, and I think research aiming to include recycled polyethylene in the coating of corrugated steel pipes has huge untapped potential. I would love to learn more about the interaction between the steel and polyethylene, especially over time and under constant stress and fatigue, and figure out a way to validate the use of recycled polyethylene in steel pipe coatings. ”

The winner of the Doyle F. Johnson Memorial Scholarship is Ms. Jessica Huang of the Georgia Institute of Technology.  Ms. Huang is pursuing a civil engineering degree with an interest in reducing road congestion.
