Mar-Jac Poultry in Spruce Pine, AL needed an unconventional storm sewer system for it’s new $35 million feedmill. Because of the nearly 100’ canyon walls at the location, the storm sewer
system needed to account for an anticipated height of cover in excess of 80’ – a height that exceeded many allowable limits on all design charts for the typical concrete, corrugated metal and precast box culverts. Time became a large factor in the design of the new system as soil removal for the site needed to begin as soon as possible.
After some extensive research into the possibilities, the team at Contech decided to go with a polymer coated double wall CSP as it provided an excellent alternative to traditional reinforced concrete pipe. A combination of 72” & 85” polymer coated, double walled CSP was used for the storm sewer system with the pipe boasting a 12-gauge outer wall and an 18-gauge liner.
The new double wall CSP contained a specialized bedding configuration that would provide the strength and durability needed to withstand the significant weight this pipe would be bearing. Within a few weeks the pipe was on site and construction began – the project schedule was right on track with no delays!
With the help of this amazing pipe Mar-Jac will be able to enjoy a hydraulically superior pipe that will last them for years to come!
