Project Spotlight: Wilsey Road

By: TrueNorth Steel

Pennington County in Wall, SD reconstructed the layout of a road and needed a culvert option that could accommodate the change. They initially looked into using reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) for this project, but they weren’t able to find a fabricator that would be able to complete the proj spiral rib corrugated steel culvertect on time. They then reached out to TrueNorth Steel and were given the solution of using spiral rib corrugated steel pipe (CSP) rather than concrete. During their consultation regarding the benefits of switching materials, they learned that RCP and CSP have equal Manning’s n flow. Additionally, CSP was more readily available than RCP at the time. Not only could TrueNorth Steel offer a product that still met their needs, but could also complete the project within the county department’s desired timeframe. Pennington County ultimately chose TrueNorth Steel to create and install over 450 feet of poly-coated corrugated steel pipe, which was arched to meet their road depth needs.
