Snack Attack: More Chips & Jobs!
Frito-Lay, a division of PepsiCo and a leading snack manufacturer, has embarked on a strategic Frito-Lay expansion in Perry, GA and Kathleen, GA. This initiative will yield significant benefits for both the company and the local community. With a substantial investment of $200 million, Frito-Lay is not only enhancing its production capabilities but also creating 120 new job opportunities in the region.
Expansion Details: What’s Cooking?
The Frito-Lay expansion in Perry GA included several key components. First, Frito-Lay is introducing a new manufacturing line dedicated to the production of its popular tortilla chip products. Additionally, Frito-Lay established a second production line to manufacture Baked Cheetos Puffs. Furthermore, the company is strategically planning for future growth by allocating space for an additional manufacturing line. To allow for future expansion, Frito-Lay also constructed a new warehouse to handle the increased production and support future growth. This expansion brings significant benefits to Perry, GA.
Rain, Rain, Go Away: Stormwater Solutions
A critical aspect of this expansion involves addressing the increased impervious surface area resulting from the new construction. To mitigate potential runoff issues during rain events, Frito-Lay has implemented an efficient stormwater management system. In pursuit of cost-effectiveness and optimal stormwater treatment, the company opted for a spiral rib pipe system with inline fittings. This alternative proved to be both economically advantageous & time-efficient. This change allowed for the installation of 20-foot pipe sections from Contech Engineered Solutions, LLC, to be completed all at once. Compared to the 8-foot sections required for the initially considered reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) system, this was a big win. The use of CMP inline fittings further streamlined the installation process, eliminating the need for large cranes or excavators. These advancements were essential for Frito-Lay’s expansion in Perry GA.
Clean Water, Happy Planet
The expansion project also prioritized effective stormwater treatment alongside efficient conveyance. To achieve this, the project implemented water quality units. Two 6-foot units were installed to meet required treatment standards and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. This component was a key part of the Frito-Lay Perry GA project.
Everybody Wins!
Frito-Lay’s expansion in Perry, Georgia, represents a strategic investment with substantial benefits for both the company and the community. This initiative not only diversifies the company’s product portfolio and production capabilities but also stimulates economic growth by generating new employment opportunities. The selection of cost-effective and time-efficient solutions for stormwater management and treatment underscores Frito-Lay’s commitment to sustainable and responsible expansion. This project serves as a testament to the positive outcomes that can be achieved through strategic collaboration between industry and community, fostering economic development while upholding environmental stewardship. Truly, the Frito-Lay expansion in Perry, GA, showcases the best in corporate and community partnerships.
