The Challenge of Limited Space
In the heart of Vilnius city, on Gariūnai street, a commercial building project faced a significant hurdle: limited space for essential fire safety infrastructure, which necessitated the use of an underground fire water tank. The construction site’s small territory demanded an innovative approach to ensure compliance with fire regulations without compromising valuable space.
A Unique Solution for Maximum Efficiency
To overcome this challenge, ViaCon Baltic specialists devised a unique solution that maximized space utilization while maintaining the required fire suppression capacity. Instead of traditional, bulky tanks, they implemented an underground fire water tank system that integrated the tanks with the building’s foundation, utilizing a pit with a suction pipeline. This approach not only conserved space but also reduced the overall dimensions and capacity requirements of the tanks.
Two Systems for Comprehensive Fire Protection
Furthermore, ViaCon Baltic installed two separate fire tank systems to address both indoor and outdoor fire hazards. This comprehensive approach ensured complete fire protection for the entire building and its surroundings, each with its own underground fire water tank.
The ViaCon Advantage
This innovative solution offered several key advantages. Firstly, it maximized the tank’s usable volume by incorporating the pit (6.5ft x 11.5ft x 2.4ft) into the system. This was achieved through a suction pipeline installed within the pit, ensuring that virtually the entire tank volume could be used for water storage. Secondly, the system featured automated controls for efficient filling and overflow management, further streamlining its operation.
As a result, this solution reduced product costs, installation expenses, and environmental impact by minimizing material usage and optimizing construction workflows. Moreover, the project was completed in a remarkably short timeframe, with only 5 weeks elapsing from design approval to final on-site installation. This highlighted the significant practical benefits of the underground fire water tank.
Technical Specifications
Outdoor Firefighting Tank:
- Usable Capacity: 11,428 cubic feet
- Tank Dimensions: 142 inches diameter x 54 feet length (two-part tank)
Indoor Firefighting Tank:
- Usable Capacity: 12,008 cubic feet
- Tank Dimensions: 118 inches diameter x 200 feet length (four-part tank with a fully equipped internal piping system)
In conclusion, ViaCon Baltic successfully addressed the challenge of limited space by implementing an innovative and efficient underground fire water tank solution. This approach not only met the project’s specific needs but also provided a model for future construction projects facing similar space constraints.
