A timber bridge in Talpa, TX was in need of emergency repairs after extensive flooding in the area. The project called for a solution that could be designed and implemented quickly as the bridge was part of the local railway system.
Big R Bridge decided to go with 60” galvanized 3×1 CSP for the rehabilitation of the bridge. Each one of the CSPs were fabricated and shipped in 60’ long sections to eliminate any joints below the rail bedding. In addition, each section was constructed between the existing bridge’s wooden piers giving it more stability and keeping the original aesthetic.
In an effort to minimalize the track closure time, the bridge deck & rails remained in service until the final ballast and ties were ready to be placed. The entire rebuild was installed in only 7 days with the bridge remaining in service during construction!
