The steel industry is the backbone of our economy. And a strong manufacturing sector creates significant benefits for society, including good-paying jobs, investment in research and development, critical materials for our national defense, and high-value exports. Yet manufacturing in North America faces significant challenges due to a host of factors, including inadequate investment in infrastructure and regulatory overreach.
Transportation infrastructure facilitates broad economic growth and directly impacts the competitiveness of the domestic steel industry. The NCSPA advocates for increased, long-term funding for improvements to the nation’s transportation, water, energy and other critical infrastructure. Federal funding should be accompanied by reforms that require competitive bidding and should ensure that iron and steel used for the nation’s infrastructure is produced in the United States.
