Project Spotlight – Idre Ski Resort

From its opening in 1968 until today the Idre fjäll has grown to be one of the most popular ski resort in Sweden, winning several awards such as the “ski resort of the year” in 2016 and 2017. In order to accommodate the increased number of visitors and to provide the best recreational facilities, they planned to expand the resort.

This new expansion project is equipped with a new gondola lift which will allow for an increased number of slopes, more lighting arrangement, additional snow systems and three new tunnels!  Each of these tunnels featured the use of corrugated steel plates and were quite the impressive achievement.

The profile of the first tunnel is known as VR21 and the bridge mode is NR1.  It featu res a bottom length of 85.4 m with an impressive total 14,600 bolts!  The total weight of the structure is 115 ton with a total number of plates coming to 702.  The inside surface area of the new tunnel is about 2306 sqm. with the the total installation time coming in at 23 days.

The 2nd tunnel is known as a VM30 profile with the bridge mode being NR1.  This tunnel features a bottom length of 56.5 m and a whopping 11,800 bolts.  The total weight of the structure is 93 ton and the total number of plates came to 562.  The inside surface area is about 1874 sqm. with the total installation time coming to 17 days.

And finally, the profile of the last tunnel is a SC special 75S and the bridge mode is 2 söder.  Boasting a bottom length of 78 m and a total number of bolts of 16,928, this tunnel comes in at an impressive 165 ton.   The total number of plates used for this tunnel came to 757 with the inside surface area of about 3278 sqm. The total installation time came to 28 days.
